we asked ourselves. After a period of almost 2 years
and encouraging |

Lecture planning is a very individual task and highly depends on you as a professor. What we can offer are just a few guidelines and hints of how to organize a course that accompanies this book. Well and being realistic – the most of you will be simply interested in our slide sets. Still we are looking forward for any comments and additions or comments. Course Syllabus |

Course Duration |
The lecture could be organized in 13 weekly units of
approx. 1 ½ hours duration. Additional exercises following the lecture could
be 12 weekly units of approx. 1 hour duration. Each lecture consists
therefore of 30-40 slides. |
|
|
Credit Units |
Sufficient for a course resulting into 3-4
credits according the European system. |
|
|
Target Audience |
Even though the book is intended for the general
technology interested audience, students following this course should be
aware of basic technology of multimedia systems. Therefore this lecture is
more suited for students already passing one year of studies. |

1st Lecture: |
General introduction into digital television,
interactive TV, explanation of terminology, course outline and course goals.
Clarification of terminology and basic system architecture. Please adjust the
general course requirements, goals and outline to your own needs... |
|
|
2nd Lecture: |
Introduction to broadcast multimedia, standards in
broadcasting. MPEG-2 and its different streaming formats are introduced and
an overview of the capabilities of DVB is given. A very slight introduction
into MHP rounds this part of the lecture up. Other broadcast multimedia
standards are presented at later stage of the lecture. |

3rd Lecture: |
This part of the lecture revises previous lectures.
MHP is explained in further detail as well as the receiver platform. An
overview of DVB-J and HTML application for digital interactive TV is given.
Other standards, such as ATSC-DASE, OpenCable and ISDB-BML are explained. The
chapter is rounded up with a digital TV asset life-cycle model and example
services. |

We are a bit delayed in cleaning up our own developed software packages for being published on this web-site. We are sorry for this! Instead we offer you to subscribe to your newsletter to get updates and additional information of changes on this web-site. Feel free to post anything topic-related such as e.g. paper calls or if you want to get in contact with other members. You can also post questions for the book. |

Is it possible to obtain a hard-copy, CD or DVD of the slide sets? |
|
|
|
Unfortunately we can not support you in delivering the content of this site on CD, DVD or hard-copy. But on this site you should find a nice collection of materials downloadable free of charge. You can simply download the files and burn them on CD including this webpage. This should be a nice information package for your lectures. Hard-copies or transparencies can be simply obtained by printing the various slide-sets on transparencies or paper. Microsoft's PowerPoint should automatically remove backgrounds and adjust colours of each presentation easy readable on either black/white or colour transparencies. |
