PROGRAMME for UXEM workshop in CHI'08, April 6th, 2008 in Florence, Italy

The aim of the workshop is to transfer knowledge from practitioners to academics about challenges with putting UX evaluation into practice, and from academics to practitioners to inform and inspire practical UX work with research findings of UX evaluation methods. Participants will gain an overview of the current state of practical approaches, tools, and methods for UX evaluation, as well as insights into the importance of UX evaluation in product development.

The main outcomes of the workshop are a model of different UX evaluation methods across product development process and a list of UX evaluation challenges in product development.

Before the workshop

As the workshop schedule is tight and the presentations short, we strongly encourage the participants to read the workshop papers in advance. If you cannot read them all, pick 2-4 that seem most interesting to you. You can find the link to the papers at the end of this page.

Overview and schedule of the workshop

The programme of the workshop day consists of introductions, paper presentation sessions, group works and discussion of the results, and warp-up & next steps. In the evening we will have a workshop dinner.

Group works

The participants will form four subgroups. There are two main topics for the groups to investigate, and the participants can choose which topic group they would like to attend.

Topic A - "A process perspective": Applicability of UX evaluation methods in different product development phases

Topic B - "A method perspective": Requirements for "good" UX evaluation methods for product development purposes

We will provide a more detailed list of questions for the groups to work on. Outcomes of the workshop

The expected outcomes of the workshop are:

• Consolidated model of UX evaluation methods against product development phases
• List of challenges of UX methods and processes (a research agenda
• Plan for publication and dissemination of the results

Workshop dinner

We will have an opportunity to have dinner together in the evening of the workshop on April 6th. The dinner will take place in Ristorante Il Latini (www.illatini.com) - we think it will be fun!
