Cloud Software Program - Superior User Experience

Together with industry partners and other research institutions, the project aims at excellent User eXperience (UX) in cloud computing and Web services. Particularly, this is achieved by developing efficient and integrated methods and tools for UX design and evaluation, including SW development tools that provide good UX both for end users and developers.

  • Project: Cloud Software Program
  • Funding: Tekes (TIVIT, ICT-shok)
  • Research Partners: E.g. Telia Sonera, TUT/OHJ, Nokia, Tieto, F-Secure, VTT.
  • Duration: 1.5.2010 - 31.12.2013
  • Contact: Jarmo Palviainen

DELUX - Delightful Long-Term User Experience: Creating Customer Loyalty

DELUX project investigates long-term user experience in order to understand how to improve customer satisfaction and loyalty in prolonged product use. The objective is to develop methods, tools, and practices for measuring how the users of products experience products in the long-term use, and analyzing the gathered data for design purposes.

  • Funding: Tekes
  • Research Partners: TUT/IHTE, Fiskars, Nokia, Paf, Suunto.
  • Duration: 1.2.2011 - 31.5.2013
  • Contact: Jari Varsaluoma

DIEM - Devices and Interoperability Ecosystem

DIEM aims at building new kind of smart environments that comprise of ecosystems of mobile devices. This target is achieved by developing seamless interoperability between the devices. Digital devices and services contain relevant information, physical and digital resources, as well as services for various purposes. Hence, by being able to extract, combine and integrate all this content, new services and applications can be created especially for ad hoc needs. The role of IHTE in DIEM is to ensure a rich and positive user experience of DIEM smart environments by applying user-centered design approach and conducting user research throughout the R&D process.

  • Funding: Tekes (TIVIT, ICT-shok)
  • Research Partners: E.g. Nokia, TUT/OHJ, University of Tampere, University of Oulu, VTT, Helsinki University of Technology
  • Duration: 15.6.2008 - 31.12.2011

Experienced Multimodal 3D Quality

Projects of this research theme aim to understand the experienced aspects of perceived multimodal quality. We approach experienced quality broadly by taking into account user's characteristics, consumed content, context of use for certain application field. We develop new evaluation methods to assess quality of service or signal quality in novel application fields in which the quality optimization is crucial and can negatively impact on experience. We also explore the ways to evade technical limitations from the side of users, contents and context of use.

Our main application fields are mobile TV and mobile 3DTV.

LOCO

LOCO project focuses on the co-creation of hyperlocal news content with mobile phones, specifically on the user experience of reader reporters participating in the mobile co-creation processes. Project is conducted in co-operation with a hyperlocal news producer. Project is part of Next Media SHOK

  • Funding: Tekes (TIVIT ICT shok)
  • Research partners: VTT, Aalto, Metropolia AMK, and UTA/JRDC
  • Company partner: Sanoma Kaupunkilehdet (Omakaupunki.fi, Vartti, Metro)
  • Project: 2010-2014
