The international workshop on software evolution, IWPSE-03, is organized for the discussion of both the theory and the experience of software evolution. It is a continuation of the previous five workshops: IWPSE-98, IWPSE-99, ISPSE-00, IWPSE-01, and IWPSE-02. Software evolution, recognized as an essential aspect of software systems, has become an emerging research subject in recent years and is attracting the attention of researchers and practitioners. The intent of IWPSE-03 is to provide a forum to discuss a wide range of topics in software evolution, to foster the better understanding of the nature of software evolution, and to accelerate research activities on the subject.

We seek two types of contribution. Please mark clearly your paper as either FULL PAPER or POSITION PAPER.

Full papers

A full paper may not exceed ten pages, and must include a title, a short abstract, and references. All full paper submissions will be refereed by the PC. Accepted papers will be published in the workshop proceedings. At least one author must attend the workshop (this is a condition of publication) and approximately 20-30 minutes will be allocated for the presentation of the paper.

Position papers

A position paper may not exceed four pages, and must include a title, a short abstract, and references. The aim of a position paper is to contribute a specific position to a research discussion. Position papers are judged on novelty, sensibility of the viewpoint, key insights, and relevant research results. Radical and unconventional ideas are welcomed. Accepted position papers will be published in the workshop proceedings, and each will be allocated 10-15 minutes for presentation.

The proceedings of IWPSE 2003 will be printed by IEEE Computer Society.

Submission procedure

Submission of papers should be done electronically. The paper submission site will be announced on April 15. If you cannot submit your paper electronically by some reasons, you need to contact to us iwpse2003-reg@se.cs.titech.ac.jp one week before the submission deadline.

Please submit your paper in either PS or a PDF using the IEEE proceedings format. Full paper submissions must not exceed 10 pages, and position paper submissions must not exceed 4 pages.

We have experienced problems with test submissions that contain non-English fonts. If you use non-English version of a tool for preparing your manuscript, (e.g. Japanese version of MSWord) and make a PDF file, we strongly recommend if you would check your file by using English version of Acrobat Reader, which can be downloaded from the URL below.

We recommend the use of IEEE Proceedings Templates for LaTeX. If this is impossible, we request you to please use a corresponding template with e.g. MS-Word.

The electronic submission procedure consists of the following steps:

1. Visit our paper submission site (http://www.se.cs.titech.ac.jp/iwpse2003/).
2. Enter the appropriate information about the paper and the contact author. Please be careful to enter the correct email address.
3. Click the button "Submit Paper Information".
4. The response web page will contain a summary of the information you entered, plus the URL of where your paper will be stored should you wish to update your submission before the deadline. Click "Next".
5. Enter the file extension, ps or pdf, and the file name where your paper is stored in your local computer.
6. Click the button "Upload paper".
7. Check the notification of "Your file have been stored ....".

Note that you must not use non-English characters in your submission. If there are no problems with the submission, the contact author will receive two email messages:

immediate notification of the registration of your paper information [see step 4]

notification of the successful processing and printing of your submission (within a few days)
