Slides (changes are possible):
Addition of a new small set of slides clarifying some most important difficult points is being planned.
The course has weekly exercise groups in English and Finnish. The student must register into one group. To register, send email to the teaching assistant. Changing the group requires permission from the teaching assistant.
The student must solve the problems at home. In the meeting, the teacher circulates a list where the student marks which problems (s)he has solved. Any student who has marked a problem as solved may be requested to present the solution on the board. Please notice that some of the problems have a precise solution and some others are more open to discussion. A solution needs not be perfect. However, if it is badly lost, the assistant will cancel the point for that problem. The intention of the exercises is to make the students practice for the examination, not to distribute additional points.
A student must solve 26 problems to get the permission to participate the examination. There are altogether 52 problems.
Here are the problems for all of the exercise sessions.
Time and place:
Wednesday 10–12 TC 128 in English
Keskiviikko 14–16 TC 210 suomeksi
Torstai 14–16 TC 210 suomeksi
Perjantai 14–16 TC 128 suomeksi
The first exercise groups will gather on the second week of period IV (i.e., the first week of March).
Teacher: Pertti Lehtinen
We have not found a teaching assistant for the project. Therefore, we cancelled the project and made the weekly exercises obligatory.
The contents of the course are based on two text books:

The grading is solely based on the examination. However, the student must earn enough points from the weekly exercises, to get the permission to participate the examination.
obligatory:
MAT-21160 Algoritmimatematiikka | Mathematics for Algorithms
OHJ-1150 Ohjelmointi II | OHJ-1156 Programming II
recommended:
OHJ-2010 Tietorakenteiden käyttö | OHJ-2016 Utilization of Data Structures
In practice, it suffices that the student has good understanding of programming in some programming language and is familiar with propositional logic. Experience with precise abstract concepts, such as encountered in theoretical programming courses and in mathematics, helps a lot.
