Introduction to Software Engineering Research
General description
Language: The language of the course is English.Aims: The aim of the course is to introduce current research directions in software engineering, extending the student's views on software engineering research beyond his/her own area. The course also discusses general topics related to research paradigms and methods in software engineering. The lecturers are national and international experts of their fields. In Spring 2011 the course consists of a lecture series organized in the context of the SoSE graduate school on software engineering. In 2011 the lectures are given by researchers that have recently completed or are in the final stages of their PhD theses. The course is primarily intended for PhD students in software engineering. The lectures are usually tutorial-like presentations of the research areas of these PhD theses, possibly added with notes on research methods and processes.
Passing the course: A student that has participated in at least eight lectures (not including the introduction lecture) get a passed marking with 6 credit points. For each lecture, the student is expected to write a report, reviewed by her or his PhD supervisor. The lectures from previous years can be used as well.
Contact person and registration: The responsible person for the course is professor Kai Koskimies (kai.koskimies@tut.fi). Slides and recordings are available at SoSE site. It is not necessary to register to the course through POP, but it is sufficient to send a note on participation via email to Kai Koskimies.
