Hämeenkatu 17, Aleksis Kiven katu 24
Andersin-Jung-Bomanson 1899
Commerce on the left corner of the street.
Commerce was the first of the three Jugend style buildings along Keskustori (the others are Palanderin talo and Sumeliuksen talo, the houses of Palander and Sumelius, respectively). It includes apartments as well as business premises. The building was drawn by the architects Andersin, Jung, and Bomanson, who had a joint business in Helsinki.
The oldest businessess in the building were the drug store "Ensimmäinen Apteekki" (the First Drug Store), and hotel Central. Ensimmäinen Apteekki is still in business, but not in they original place, as they moved in 1983 within the building.
Commerce represents the time when Jugend was emerging in Tampere. Features of the European Jugend can clearly be seen. The brickwork of the building is very elegant. The first floor is plain brick, and the upper floors are plastered brick. The lists and other decorations are also made of brick.
