TISE is open to students of all nationalities. Prerequisites are a Master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science and Engineering or in a closely related field, and mastery of the English language (for foreign students). Exceptionally strong candidates graduating in the near future may also be considered. The main language of the universities is Finnish, but courses in this program are available in English. Starting from the Master's level, study time is expected to be four years.
One very important prerequisite is a strong commitment to carry out the PhD studies, all the way to thesis defense, in four years starting from Master's level. The usual way to TISE is to start in one of the participating departments as a post-graduate student, and after a successful start, apply for the TISE position and funding.
TISE is expected to take some 15-20 students annually. The exact number will depend on applications, as well as on the funding that is available to TISE and the associated projects.
