Studies

The degree programme is interesting, versatile and comprehensive. Students have a variety of choice to make the degree comply with their areas of interest.

The International Master’s Degree Programme in Information Technology provides students with comprehensive basic knowledge of IT in general and in-depth special knowledge and skills in the major subject. Multidisciplinary study modules and the opportunity to combine a variety of subjects increase the diversity of the degrees in the programme, not to mention the graduates’ employment prospects in a wide range of industrial or research tasks.

The programme offers various forms of instruction. Courses often consist of a combination of lectures or seminars, laboratory work, tutorials and/or individual studies. Course requirements are usually completed with written examinations. The mandatory coursework is defined separately on a course-specific basis.

The average duration of the programme is two years; three semesters of course work and one semester of the final project (master's thesis). The programme starts annually in the beginning of September and the academic year ends in the end of May.

The official language of the programme is English, i.e. courses, exams and student services are arranged in English. Consequently, proficiency in both written and spoken English is required and it should be demonstrated in the application with one of the acceptable language tests. Previous knowledge or studies of the Finnish language are not required, but at least basic courses are strongly recommended because they provide good basic language skills useful in everyday life, and also a brief introduction to the Finnish culture.

Qualification and access to further studies

The two-year programme leads to the degree of Master of Science in Technology and after completing this degree, the student is eligible to directly apply for doctoral degree programmes.
