The scientific program includes keynote lectures, invited talks as well as regular sessions with contributed research talks and posters.

The 10th WCSB will take place in Tampere, Finland in June 2013. The previous successful events have been WCSB 2006, 2005, 2004, and 2003 hosted by Tampere University of Technology, Finland, WCSB 2008 hosted by the University of Leipzig, Germany,  WCSB 2009 hosted by Aarhus University, Denmark, WCSB 2010 hosted by University of Luxembourg, WCSB 2011 hosted by ETH Zürich, Swizerland, and WCSB 2012 hosted by Ulm University, Germany.
