Miika Ahdesmäki

Dr.Sc.(Tech.), M.Sc.(Eng.)

I currently work as senior bioinformatics scientist in the industry at Almac Diagnostics Manchester, part of Almac Group. In our work we apply e.g. machine learning and bioinformatics techniques in high dimensional biomarker discovery and classification problems.

Prior to working at Almac I was Alexander von Humboldt postdoctoral fellow at IMISE, University of Leipzig. I was a member of the Statistics and Computational Biology group, led by Professor Korbinian Strimmer. I am also affiliated with the Computational Systems Biology group, led by professor Olli Yli-Harja, in Department of Signal Processing, Tampere University of Technology.

Work related keywords: statistical machine learning, pattern classification, feature selection, biomarker discovery, high dimensional problems, genomics, proteomics, *omics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, systems biology.

We recently organised the International Workshop on Computational Systems Biology 2008, 5th in series, in Leipzig, June 11-13, 2008. See the pages here for more information.

WCSB 2009 was organised in Aarhus, Denmark. See the pages here.

WCSB 2010 will be organised in Luxembourg in June 2010. See this page for more information.
