Who?

My name is Petri Ihantola and I am an Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Software Engineering in the Depertment of Pervasive Computing at the Tampere University of Technology. Before arriving to Tampre in 2014, I worked at Aalto University from where I also received my PhD in 2011 and at Google as a Software Engineer in Test in Ireland and in Switzerland between 2007 and 2009. Between 2014 and 2015 I have acted as a Visiting Scholar at the Stanford University in the Lytics (Learning Analytics) Lab.

What?

My research spans across software engineering and educational software with a particular focus on smart content, automated assessment, mobile learning, and learning analytics in computer science education. More specifically still, I research how to build efficient online tools to support learning of programming. Such tools, like all other educational software, should be engaging and widely accessible and should provide helpful feedback to the learners. For the list of my publications, see my GoogleScholar profile.

Currently, I teach Service-Oriented Systems (Palvelupohjaiset järjestelmät) and Web Programming (Web-ohjelmointi)
