I received an MSc. degree in mathematics from University of Turku, Finland in 1999. In 2003, I got a PhD degree (with commendation) in signal processing from Tampere University of Technology, Finland. During my PhD studies, I spent seven months at the McConnell Brain Imaging Centre at Montreal Neurological Institute. In 2004 - 2005, I was a post-doctoral fellow in Laboratory of Neuroimaging (LONI) at UCLA. After spending some great time in sunny California, I returned to Tampere, where I worked as a senior researcher and a scientific coordinator of the Statcore Research Cluster of Excellence of the University Alliance Finland. Currently, I am a research fellow of the Academy of Finland. I am also an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine, Advisory Editorial Board member of the newly estabilished Open Medical Imaging Journal, and I serve as an ad-hoc reviewer to numerous journals and conferences. My research interests include image processing, image analysis and pattern recognition within brain imaging, particularly using energy minimization/PDE based techniques. My Erdös number is 3.
