OPEN POSITIONS

Thank you for your interest in our research and research group. Below, you will find open positions which have recently been advertized in our research group. Please consult this page frequently for new postings. In addition to the specific open positions posted below, we may occasionally offer new PhD students and postdoc positions in the areas of multimedia indexing and retrieval and video compression and streaming. In case you are interested in any of the advertized positions or in the two research areas mentioned above, see the instructions below on how to apply.

    Posting on 8 January 2012:

PhD student or post-doc researcher in the field of video coding and transport

Tampere University of Technology (TUT) and Nokia Research Center (NRC) are looking for a PhD student or post-doc researcher in the field of video coding. The research is likely to relate to ongoing standardization activities of High-Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), Three-Dimensional Video Coding (3DV) and video systems. You will work closely with NRC's researchers having long term experience in video coding research and standardization.

In this position, you will collaborate with other researchers of the project team for integration of novel coding algorithms into an experimental video codec framework. You will also run simulations and optimize the interoperation of the algorithms. We expect excellent C/C++ programming skills. You should have a track record of mastering complicated software projects with several thousand lines of source code and tens of source code files. Knowledge on scripting languages is helpful in order to run simulations for large data sets. Experience on working with Linux-based computing clusters is appreciated. You should also possess at least basic knowledge of video coding and digital signal processing. Knowledge of 3D video and image processing and compression is considered a plus. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English language are needed.

The practical arrangements for the position are as follows: The researchers will work in a project team including researchers from both the University and Nokia. The project is funded by Nokia, and the researcher will be employed by Tampere University of Technology. It is likely that the researcher will work in NRC premises located next to the TUT campus.
