Values of Team Nurmi
Some reasoning behind the values
As the research group is operating within Tampere University of
Technology (TUT), it is natural that we share the values of TUT
to a large extent. TUT values are to be scientific, persistent,
communal, honest and reliable, exuberant, and supporting diversity.
These values also apply to serving the scientific community
in general.
As we are working in close cooperation with companies, we have to
share some of their values, too. One of the main dogmas that keeps
business running is productivity and profit earning capacity, in
short: output. Output in some form is also what the funding
agencies, governing bodies, and the society in general expect from us.
As the group consists solely of individuals who have their own
personal targets and personal values, we need to share similar
values with them, too. As these values may have a significant
variance, we concentrate on having only such people in the group
who can share the main values of the group. On the other hand,
we take into account individual targets and acute situations
as long as they are not in conflict with the group values in
long run. One of the personal values we strongly respect is the attempt
for personal development.
The values in brief are:
- Fairness
- fair use of scarce economic resources
- supportive spirit
- equal opportunities, rights and duties
- providing best effort as individual and as group
- scientific approach
- Openness
- sharing of ideas within the group
- publication of results on open forums whenever possible
