Professional information

I work since 2007 as a researcher and project manager at Tampere University of Technology (TUT), Unit of Human-Centered Technology (IHTE). The main focus of my research is currently related to user experience of mobile phone based systems, specifically in mobile news journalism (PALTI 2007-2009, funded by Ministry of Education, Finland). This is also the topic of my ongoing PhD thesis work. In addition, I am involved in a project for promoting health awareness of adolescents by gaming (TERVI 2008-2009, funded by TEKES). I also supervise M.Sc. Thesis workers in the area of the research projects, two have graduated so far, and three are at different stages of their work.

I started my research career as a research assistant in TUT by literally knocking trees trying to find out if they are sound or not. I was then involved in various projects developing algorithms for analysis of different types of measurement signals. One part of this was also developing a simulator for ultrasonic signal generation for a robotic application. I moved onto telecommunication related work and e.g. was involved in implementation and development of algorithms for multi-user detection in WCDMA. The last three years before moving to TUT I was involved in a project for a novel mobile device architecture, called NoT A (Network on Terminal Architecture). My role was related to defining user requirements (functional and non-functional) for the architecture.
