12.5.2011 Biographies of the seminar speakers

Evangelos Karapanos (Assistant Professor, Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute, University of Madeira)

Evangelos is an assistant professor at Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute. His research focuses on the design and evaluation of pervasive computing systems with a focus on the experiential and social consequences of their adoption. He holds a PhD cum laude from Eindhoven University of Technology on methods and tools for user experience evaluation, entitled Quantifying Diversity in User Experience.

Karapanos has developed a unique web tool, iScale, for the retrospective elicitation of longitudinal user experience data. iScale was motivated by two distinct theories on how people reconstruct emotional experiences from memory. The constructive iScale tool imposes a chronological order in the reconstruction of one’s experiences. It assumes that chronological reconstruction results in recalling more contextual details surrounding the experienced events and that the felt emotion is constructed on the basis of the recalled contextual details. In recent experiments it was shown that iScale results in an increase in the amount, the richness, and the test-retest reliability of recalled information. These results provide support for the viability of retrospective techniques as a cost effective alternative to longitudinal studies.

3.5.2011 Seminar on Long-term User Experience

DELUX will organized a seminar on Long-term UX on 1st of June 2011 in Tampere University of Technology (TUT).

Do you know how user experience of your products change from the time of purchase over weeks, months or even years? User experience (UX) is not a stabile state but the relationship between the user and the product evolves over time from the early learning and enthusiasm to attachment or disappointment. This long-term user experience creates customer loyalty and makes people to recommend the product to others.

In the seminar the DELUX project researchers will give you a brief introduction of long-term user experience and present methods for evaluating it. We are glad to have also an international speaker, Evangelos Karapanos, presenting his work on long-term UX. Karapanos is an assistant professor at Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute in University of Madeira. His research focuses on the design and evaluation of pervasive computing systems with a focus on the experiential and social consequences of their adoption.

More information about the seminar will be updated soon.
